A big apartment management company is suing Airbnb

Oh, how the tables can transform. Right after suing San Francisco, New York City and Anaheim, Airbnb has discovered by itself on the other aspect of a lawsuit. Condominium Investment & Administration Corporation (Aimco), which owns or manages about fifty,000 houses, is suing Airbnb, stating that the company is intentionally incentivizing men and women to breach their leases, The Wall Street Journal claimed.

Aimco, which filed the lawsuit in California and Florida state courts, is in search of financial damages as perfectly as court orders to prevent Airbnb from enabling men and women to breach their leases. Aimco’s beef with Airbnb is that its platform brings people with “unvetted private histories” (seem familiar?) with “no vested fascination in protecting a peaceful group atmosphere” inside their buildings.

“It is not acceptable to us that Airbnb actively encourages and profits from deliberate breaches of our leases, and does so in utter disregard of the disrespectful and unsafe predicaments developed for our whole-time citizens and their family members,” Aimco CEO Terry Considine mentioned in a statement. “We are asking the courts to compensate Aimco for our losses and to enjoin Airbnb from participation in even more illegal action at our houses so that our regulation-abiding citizens can take pleasure in a superior high quality living encounter.”

The lawsuit will come following Aimco states it notified Airbnb in August, October and December of last calendar year that some of the listings on Airbnb had been in violation of Aimco’s lease agreements, Aimco wrote in a statement.

But Airbnb, remaining Airbnb, is of training course likely to fight this, stating that it is an “attack on the middle course by strong interests” that “is wholly without the need of merit,” an Airbnb spokesperson explained to The WSJ.

Airbnb has attempted to appease landlords by presenting to give them a cut of the profits, but it’s not crystal clear how perfectly that initiative is likely. Dependent on how this situation turns out, landlords down the highway could experience either much more or less inclined to just take legal motion from Airbnb.
